Not Planned

Today on the train...a young couple sat down in the aisle across from me so I could only see them out of the corner of my eye. I thought they were wearing backpacks, but a few minutes into the ride a baby started to cry. I glanced over as the girl pulled back a blanket to reveal a baby, probably no more than six months old.

The baby caught the sight of who I'm guessing was her dad and smiled big as he talked softly to her. The young mother rocked the baby to keep her calm as she started asking her boyfriend(?) interview questions, obviously prepping him for a job interview.

As young as they were, for that brief moment that I got to see into their lives, the couple seemed to be resilient  and supportive of each other. I hope that they know when to ask for help when they need it. I hope that they have access to the resources that will help them succeed. I hope that baby gets the love and affection she requires. I hope he got the job!
